of the spec.
JL Industries and Activar cabinets and extinguishers, sold by model number with the submittal attached. If it is on your drawings, it is here, in stock, with the trim style you actually specified.

The third digit tells you how it meets the wall.
JL cabinet numbers are a specification in shorthand. Series, door, trim, glazing. Pick a trim style below and watch the section cut change. That is the difference between a cabinet that fits the wall and a return shipment.
Everything in 10 44 00, by the number.
Cabinets sorted the way specifiers sort them: by material, by rating, by how they meet the wall. Extinguishers sorted by what they put out.

The wall has a rating. The hallway has a cane.
Most cabinet mistakes are not about the cabinet. They are about the wall it goes into and the corridor it sticks out into. Here are the two questions we ask on every quote.
Cut the wall, keep the rating.
Recessing a cabinet into a one- or two-hour rated wall creates a membrane penetration. JL Industries answered that in 1991 with the first pre-lined fire-rated cabinet, now Fire-FX2: a lightweight mineral wool liner factory-fitted to the tub, tested to ANSI/UL 1479 (ASTM E814) so the wall keeps its rating with the cabinet installed.
Order any Ambassador, Academy, Cosmopolitan or Panorama cabinet with the FX2 suffix and it ships lined. No field wrap, no fire caulk debates with the inspector.
Four inches, no more.
The ADA Standards say objects with leading edges between 27 and 80 inches above the floor may project no more than 4 inches into a circulation path. A cane sweeps below 27 inches; anything above that is invisible to it. Surface-mount cabinets almost always fail this test in a corridor. Semi-recessed cabinets with a 2½-inch or 4-inch rolled trim pass.
JL marks ADA-compliant models in its catalog and so do we. Handle height stays at or below 48 inches for a forward reach.
Summarized from the JL Industries Fire Protection catalog, ADA Standards §307 and UL 1479. Local authorities having jurisdiction may amend these requirements. This is product guidance, not legal or code advice.
We sell the boring parts perfectly.
A fire cabinet is not exciting until it is wrong. Then it is a change order, a re-inspection and a hole in a rated wall. Our whole job is making sure that never happens.

The model number is the product.
Every listing carries the full JL model number, the trim digit decoded, the rough opening and the submittal. Search by the number on your drawings and you land on the right cabinet, not a lookalike.
-
Submittals travel with the order.
Architects want the sheet, inspectors want the listing, and you want both before the truck arrives. Each product page links the manufacturer submittal and installation instructions so your closeout binder builds itself.
-
We ask about the wall before we sell the cabinet.
Rated or not, stud depth, corridor or room. Thirty seconds of questions on a quote saves a return shipment of a 40-pound steel box. If a surface mount is going into a hallway, we will say so.
-
Quotes come from people who quote cabinets every day.
Multi-unit schedules, mixed trim styles, dark bronze one floor and stainless the next. Send the schedule as it is. We return line-item pricing with lead times, from Raleigh, North Carolina.
-
No fake urgency, no fake stock.
If a model is made to order, the page says so with a real lead time. If it ships from stock, it ships. We would rather lose a sale than surprise a superintendent.

Questions we answer before you ask.
Straight answers from the manufacturer documentation, not from a sales script.
Q01How do I read a JL cabinet model number?
Take 1017V10. 10 is the series and size (a 10 lb extinguisher cabinet). 1 is the door frame style. 7 is the trim: 4 trimless, 5 flat, 6 square semi-recessed, 7 rolled semi-recessed, 2 four-inch rolled, 3 surface mount. V is a vertical duo door and 10 is clear acrylic glazing. Add FX2 at the end for a Fire-FX2 fire-rated version. The Trim decoder on this page shows each option in section.
Q02Do I need a fire-rated cabinet?
Only if the cabinet is recessed or semi-recessed into a wall that carries a fire rating, such as a corridor, stair or shaft wall. A surface-mount cabinet does not penetrate the wall and does not need a rating. When in doubt, check the wall type on the life-safety plan or ask the architect. Fire-FX2 cabinets are tested to UL 1479 / ASTM E814 for one- and two-hour walls.
Q03Which trim styles meet the ADA 4-inch projection rule?
Trimless (4), flat trim (5), 1½-inch square (6), 2½-inch rolled (7) and the 4-inch rolled (2) all project 4 inches or less and are marked ADA-compliant in the JL catalog. Surface-mount cabinets (3 and 9) project the full tub depth and generally do not comply in a corridor or circulation path.
Q04Are extinguishers shipped charged and tagged?
JL extinguishers ship fully charged, with the exception of the Grenadier pressurized water and Nebula water mist units which ship empty by design. Inspection tagging requirements vary by state and local fire code, so tags are handled by your local service company after installation.
Q05Can you quote a full project schedule?
Yes. Send the cabinet and extinguisher schedule as it is, mixed trims and finishes included. We return line-item pricing and lead times for each model, and flag anything on the schedule that will not fit the wall it is drawn into.
Q06What does the warranty cover?
Activar Construction Products Group warrants its fire protection products for one year from shipment against defects in materials and workmanship. Extinguishers may carry a longer manufacturer warranty; the specific term is listed on each product page.
Send the schedule. We will send it back priced.
Paste the cabinet schedule, attach nothing, and tell us the wall types if you know them. Line-item pricing and lead times come back the same business day.
